Photographing the Quiet Moments

I've always loved people watching. A large part of me wants to travel the world, not just to have exciting adventures, but to sit and watch all the different people living all their different lives, all at once. It seems exhilarating to me.

I've loved capturing quiet moments between couples, and between families. There is something so undeniably loud in those quiet moments. There is an unspoken, unwritten expression of love, devotion, caring and follow-you-to-the-ends-of-the-earth-edness about them that nothing else truly compares to.

How do you get moments like these in your gallery? Well, truly, there isn't anything that you can do in addition to just being yourselves, to make magic like this happen.

For me, it's all in the waiting game. If you love each other, truly, then these moments create themselves. It's my job solely to watch for them to unfold, and have my camera ready when they do.

If you want to see one for yourself, one of my favourites is at a wedding. When the best man and maid of honour are signing the wedding certificate, look up to the bride and groom. There is always a quiet moment there that they share. It's a quick stolen kiss, a side hug, a little giggle. That's how I can always tell the couples who really, deeply love one another. It's in quiet moments just like those ones.

They speak louder than words.
